Spikey Stuff

Before wandering out of Docklands I give you a spikey sculpture on the vomit-inducingly named "Cartier Circus" on the entrance to Canary Wharf. No plaque, no more information.

Is thid nsmed after Jacques Cartier...who "discovered" (despite the already present aboriginals) Quebec/Canada; or, the French fashin house?

Ahh... maybe.I'd like to believe that explanation, rather than Cartier the jewelers (which I thought it was). Links into Canada Square and all that. Didn't the original financier come from Canada? The one that went broke?

Yep, Olympia and York were the Canadian property developers, hence Canadian-connected names like Cabot Square.

Why vomit inducing? Seems rather an odd reaction.

That was when I thought Cartier was named after the jewelers, I don't like the idea of people buying place names. Ikea or (specially) Cartier
