Sir Thomas More

Shot with Olympus E520
Thomas More lived and is buried near here on the Chelsea Embankment. What sets this statue apart is the gilded face and hands. What set the man apart was the way he lived his life to ideals - he coined the word "Utopia" - he was the Man For All Seasons. Is it only me that sees irony in that he was chosen as the patron saint of politicians? Except, I suppose, he did get up to some pretty nasty stuff so it fits.

Well, he was a consummate politician so being patron saint of politicians sounds about right. He didn't mind Henry's divorce, it's only him displacing the Pope as Head of the English Church that he objected to. As for Utopia, I am surprised you think well of what was described there. It is a horrible place and the nearest approximation to it is North Korea or China at the height of Maoism.

Wouldn't argue with you, and I'm not fond of him, just observed that - at this remove - he appeared to hold true to his ideals. (and no thanks, I won't have his Utopia).
