St James' Palace

Shot with Olympus E510
St James Palace is fairly hidden, and the best place in London to get up close and personal for a photo opportunity with the guards, most of the time there are very few people around. You can find it here.

Are the guards allowed to stand inside the box? I mean in pouring-down-rain? Interesting post. The guard job is not given over to the police but to the military.

I tried to get on your blog yesterday but it wouldn't load for some reason. So I never made it but was trying.

Guards can retreat to the boxes in very bad weather.

Their postion there is largely ceremonial - armed police are never more than a few yards away. Although, in extremis, I am sure that they would defend themselves vigourously.
