Streetlamps in St James

If you visited Paris yesterday, you would have learned that they have 82,000 street lamps and they are all electric. You might even have managed to see streetlamps in Torino, Mazatlan or Hamburg.

So it looks like London's the only one with real gaslights still. Oh good.

We have numerous street lights, but they are all electric. Our gasbags are in the other Washington.

(Inside joke: we who live in the beautiful, evergreen state of Washington, USA, refer to Washington, DC, as "the other Washington" - I presume the rest of the US uses the reference the other way 'round.)

Wow, you still have gas lamps? As we A-mare-ee-cans would say, "how quaint"! LOL

Nice shot. We've still got the original gas lamps, but they've been converted to electricity.

There are gas lamps on the Wells Road in the Malvern Hills (UK). They stay lit all day and all night. On a dark night they give about as much light as a candle. There is also Malvern water flowing out of the hills, free to anyone with a container. It is bottled and sold by Coca Cola and retails for a good price.

The Park estate in Nottingham is gas lit and looks wonderful at night. Sure it's a bit dim, but as my friend who lives there has said, if you think it's too dark you can move somewhere else.

They love it.

I'm sorry to disappoint you, but in Berlin they are still using gas lamps, too =)
